The ads are selected based on the genre and keywords from the podcaster. These are matched up with our available ads. We have a large pool of ads to choose from but also encourage podcasters to sell/attach their own sponsors as well, which can be easily incorporated and served by our system.
The podcaster is prompted through the creation process. The third step in creating your ViraCast is to upload your “User Image” after you upload your mp3 and then add ID tags.
Ads are not stored with the ViraCast. All ads are served dynamically, so that even when old shows are viewed today, they will see current and revenue producing ads.
ViraCast shows are created in .mov so they are easy to host, rss, etc., just as with an mp3.
A ViraCast cannot be uploaded to YouTube and will be rejected. If someone wants to give their content away, then they certainly can, but ViraCast does not allow YouTube or other file sharing sites to strip out the ads. On the other hand, ViraCasts travel intact and retain their full interactivity and tracking when downloaded via BitTorrent, Kazaa, Limewire, etc. They can also work great in Video Blogs.
Beat9 provides a full, industry standard, ad back-end with real time tracking of views and clicks for both advertisers and podcasters. So, even if a show is only partially viewed, we do count the ads actually delivered.
Advertisers have been very reluctant to get into podcasts because they have not been able to get real metrics. They really only want to pay for what they get, which is understandable. Beat9 delivers this and it can be third-party verified if necessary. The ultimate effect of this is to bring a real flow of quality ads to the table, which will in turn drive up content production value, which will then bring more people to the medium. Of course there will always be a place for certain content which is and should be free. Beat9 is not for those producers. Beat9 is committed to expanding the opportunity for people who are passionate about creating and delivering valuable content and getting paid for their work. We would like to see all these independent producers quit their day job and turn their passion and hobby into a career.
